Gettysburg Gateway for Men Shelter
The Gateway Shelter was a collaborative effort between The City of Dayton, Montgomery County, Saint Vincent De Paul, The Other Place and CountyCorp to convert a 44,397 square foot former city jail in to a viable space to provide shelter and case management services for the unhoused. A 3,765 square foot addition was also designed to contain classrooms and other social service agencies.
The challenge in renovating the space was to transform the once highly institutional aesthetic to an environment that was conducive to motivation, but would also offer areas of peace.
The shelter was designed to run 24/7, serving single men with shelter, showers, meals, mail services, clothing, and case manager access.
